The Lake District of England

February 28, 2018

A couple of weekends ago we (me, Dory, Becca, John, Annamieke, Ian and Violet) all made the trek down across the borders into England to go to the Lake District - a place I had not been for 40 years!  We met Ian's parents, John and Kay, and his brother Paul and Paul's wife Jo for a 4 day stay at Langton Adventure Centre - a traveler's lodge John and Kay have been care taking for well over 30 years.  It was a great spot from which to adventure to the different lakes and towns for hikes and eats - and, though it was somewhat dreich (as we say here in Scotland - overcast, misty, cold) the sun did come out now and then, and it didn't rain but very little.  And, we celebrated Annamieke's birthday there as well.

I traveled here 40 years ago - May of 1978 - with my parents for our first ever UK visit - our first time overseas at all, in fact.  We spent 6 weeks in England, Ireland and Wales (we didn't get to Scotland that time - 2016 was my first Scotland visit).  I remember how quite the roads were, and how we would pull over to the side of the road to have a picnic, and I would play with the abundant lambs crawling all over the hills.  I tried to go to Lake Windermere to re-create some of those memories, but the durn road was closed!  Next time.......

As usual, I took scads of photos, and it's so hard to distill it down, but here are a few from the weekend.  I hope to be able to go back again sooner rather than later!
