It's Beach Time!

July 2, 2017

It's our third day here in Scotland, and, although we are still working on getting over jet lag, it was a gorgeous, sunny, breezy and warm day.  To top it off, we were at two beaches today - Portobello and Gullane, with our walk this evening at the latter beach being the undisputed highlight of our day.

To tell the truth, and to be fair to ourselves, we have been dealing with more than just jet lag - it's kind of a delayed stress-relief because of all that we have gone through getting ready for this move.  Months and months of paperwork, as well as selling things to friends, on eBay, and at our huge garage sale.  The paper work alone is mind boggling - I had to apply for my Visa 3 times, and each time I had to send mountains of supporting paperwork, and each time I had to go to Sacramento to get my "Biometrics" (photos and fingerprints) done.  We won't even go into how many emails there were back and forth to the lawyers in Scotland, (with the accompanying invoices!), but I have absolutely no complaints there. Too, there was all we had to do getting things ready to ship overseas and doing the paperwork involved there - T o R forms, Customs forms, Inventory forms.  Saying goodbye to life-long, and new friends. Parting with some family members.  I could go on, but suffice it to say that, even though we have lots to do yet to get settled in here, so much of the weight of the last year has been taken off our shoulders, and I think we are starting to realize that "This is it!", we actually live here!!  And we couldn't be happier about it!

Now, the beaches.  I was at Portobello Beach a lot last year when I was here to photograph my niece, Annamieke's wedding and to do the first ever Cowboy Dressage Clinic.  I didn't take any photos of the Portobello walks today along the promenade - but will get some next time.  However, the walk we just came back from at the beach in Gullane (where are staying for 3 weeks) was just what the doctor ordered!  I had looked at the Google map of Gullane and saw that if we walked just a couple of blocks north from our flat, we would find a beach, but I didn't have any idea of how nice a beach it would be!  Being new to this blog format, I just discovered that I can post galleries of images, and you can click on each one to see it and find out more.  So, here you go, and I'll be back soon!
